Shut down your friends PC while you are on internet
Hi friends! Windows XP provides many utilities to make their using convenient. You can also remote shutdown anyones computer while you are on internet. You can try this on your Friends/Enemy's computer just to harass him. Just Follow the simple steps-
Right click my computer, choose manage.
Highlight the Computer Management (Local) then click on Action, choose connect to another computer.
In the window that opens fill in the machine name of the PC you want to connect to and click ok.
Once connected right click on Computer Management (Remote machine name) and choose properties.
Go to the "Advanced" tab and click the Settings button under Start up and recovery.
Click on the Shutdown button.
Under action choose what you want to do (you can log off current user, shut down, restart, or power down. you can also choose if you want to force all applications to close, close hung apps, or wait for all apps to close by themselves).
The second way... Remember dos... that good old thing. Open up a command prompt and enter in the following:

5. Troubleshoot startup
If Windows is taking its time to start up or shut down, there might be a problem. To find out what's going on, go to 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System', create a DWORD value called 'verbosestatus' and set it to 1. Restart your PC and Windows will tell you what it's getting up to.
6. Manage folder types
Windows Vista's Explorer will 'intelligently' choose your folder type based on its contents. But this means that a Download folder will change to a Music folder if you grab a few MP3s. To fix this, go to 'HCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell', delete the 'Bags' subkey and then create a new Bags key in the same location.

If Explorer no longer lists your DVD drive (or thinks that it's a DVD-ROM and can't burn discs), go to 'HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\' and delete the 'UpperFilters' or 'LowerFilters' settings.

Windows XP's NTBACKUP improves its performance by maintaining a list of system files it knows you won't want to back up (such as the paging file). Add your own files and folders that you're not bothered about and you'll get even better results.

Most installations default to the Program Files folder, but if you want to point this elsewhere, navigate to 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion', change the 'ProgramFilesDir' entry to point at your chosen folder and reboot.

Add a memory card reader to a PC and Explorer will often cram the Computer folder with similar sounding drive names ('Removable Drive D:', 'Removable Drive E:' and so on), making it difficult to tell them apart. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Blue-screen crashes are usually bad news, but occasionally you might want to initiate one yourself. You might need to test Windows' error reporting, for example. There's a Registry trick that can help achieve this.

To be safe, delete the CrashOnCtrlScroll value when you're done.

How to lock any folder without any software
Hi friends! You can lock and unlock your folder with this simple trick-
1. Make a folder on the desktop and name it as “folder”
2. Now, open notepad and write ren folder folder.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} and now (Notepad Menu) File>save as.
3. In the ‘save as’ name it as lock.bat and click save ! (Save it on Desktop)
4. Now, again open notepad again and write ren folder.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} folder and now (Notepad Menu) File>save as.
5. In the ‘save as’ name it as key.bat and click save ! (Save it on Desktop)
6. Now, double click lock.bat to lock the folder and now if you open your folder, control panel will open up !
7. Now, double click key.bat to open the folder and now if you open your folder, you can access your data inside the folder again !
8. Lock your folder and hide the key.bat somewhere else on your hard disk !
9. Whenever you want to open your folder just paste the key.bat on desktop and open your folder using it !

How to find the real IP address of a web site?
Hi friends! you can find the real IP address of any website. You can use the PING utility included with Windows to determine the “real” IP address of a web site. Before using this utility, make sure you are not mapping a host name to some IP address with HostName Commander, because if you do, the PING utility will show the address you’ve set up with HostName Commander, instead of the “real” IP address.
To run the PING utility, click on the Windows Start button, and choose Run from the Start Menu. If you use Windows 95,98, or Me, enter “command” (without the quotes) as the command line to run. If you use Windows XP,2000, or NT, enter “cmd” (again, without the quotes). Click OK and the command prompt window should appear on the screen.
Now enter the word “ping” (without the quotes) followed by a space, followed by the host name you want to determine the IP address of, and press Enter:
In this example, the IP address of the host name www.rkgit.edu.in is74.52.201.2 & IP Address of the host name www.kiet.edu is220.225.19.55 . (Keep in mind that the IP address may change in the future!). If the PING utility reports an error, make sure your computer is connected to the Internet when you are running it.
